Vintage Japanese Satsuma Moriage Dragon Figural Vase 12" Gilt Made in Japan
Vintage Japanese Satsuma-style pottery vase featuring elaborate moriage raised enamel, gilt decoration, figural scenes, and a dramatic dragon motif. The substantial 12-inch vase is decorated against a dark charcoal-black ground with two traditionally dressed haloed figures, a detailed white dragon, flying birds, stylized foliage, and richly patterned geometric elements. Extensive hand-applied raised moriage enamel in red, green, blue, white, and gold creates considerable texture and dimension throughout the design. Broad gilt areas and decorative bands around the shoulder, neck, and foot complete the ornate presentation. The underside bears a gold “MADE IN JAPAN” export mark. Additional hand-painted red workshop/decorator marks are present along the underside near the foot. These appear to be production or decorator marks rather than an identifiable artist's signature. The specific manufacturer is unknown. Based on the construction, decoration, and export marking, this vase is believed to date approximately to the 1930s–1950s. Measurements: Approximately 12 tall × 7.5 diameter at widest point. Top rim approximately 4.25 diameter; base approximately 4.25 diameter. Weight approximately 3 lb 2 oz. Condition: Good vintage condition with age-related wear, including areas of gilt loss and rubbing, particularly around the upper rim, scattered light surface scratches/marks, and crazing consistent with age. No major cracks or repairs observed. Please review photographs carefu
