【156】Hannya Mask, Wood Carving, Approx. 26x18cm, Mask, Oni Mask, Traditional Craft
■Condition
There is a chip on the right eye of the mask. While it could be repaired with wood glue, I hesitated to do so, so I plan to package the chipped piece separately to be included with the mask. In the photos, it is the triangular piece, about 1cm in size, placed on a white surface.
Therefore, the photos show two states: the chipped state and the repaired state. The first image and the four-part photo show the mask with the piece attached, while the other photos show it in its missing state.
Also, as it is an old item, there are some scratches here and there. A particularly noticeable scratch is on the upper cheek. The coloring changes depending on how the light hits it during photography, so I have captured that as well.
The dirt is light and has been wiped with a damp cloth and dried. (^^)

This is a wooden Hannya mask that has been displayed in my grandfather's house since before I was born. I am now organizing and decided to sell it.
The back is inscribed with Showa 60th Year, September, Auspicious Day, Juhi 15th Anniversary, Kinebuchi Sei. It is likely a commemorative inscription for the erection of a Juhi (monument for longevity), with the place name included. It has an antique feel that evokes history. A string is attached to the back, allowing it to be used as an antique wall hanging. Handmade items made from natural materials like this are becoming increasingly rare, so this would be a great addition to a collection!
