Antique Armenian Lace Needle and Thread Sunflower/Dahlia Pattern Doily Fine Thread
An Armenian antique/vintage lace purchased in Italy.
This is a beautiful floral-shaped round doily, 14cm in diameter, featuring Armenian lace, a traditional craft technique where lace is made using only needle and thread.
Numerous small bundles of thread spread out radially in various shapes – long and thin, round like grape clusters, lattice-like, clumped, or thread-like – resembling sunflowers or dahlias.
Although it appears to be crochet at first glance, the loops are unique and different. The difference in stitches is also minimal compared to very fine needlework techniques like Point de Venise or Appenzell.
The color is a refreshing, cool, and soft white, a bright off-white.
The thread is smooth, firm, and has a subtle sheen and luster.
While I imagine it's cotton, it might be a cotton and linen blend.
The thread is quite fine but not overly delicate, making it suitable for everyday use.
Armenian lace, passed down since 2000 BC, has a long and distinguished history. The fine thread lace, woven in a land where Europe and Asia intersect, possesses a mysterious fullness, as if filled with air, exuding a fairy-like airiness.
Only needle and thread are used.
Beautiful lace is created by making intricate knots.
