Antique Brussels Duchesse & Point de Gaze Lace Collar with Trefoils, Small Flowers, and Leaves

US Size:

A delicate and elegant antique Belgian lace collar, likely purchased in France. This is a handmade detachable collar from the late 1800s to early 1900s, featuring Brussels Duchesse lace bobbin work and Point de Gaze white embroidery with easily adaptable short lappets.

You can cross the tips/tackets at the chest to wear it as a beautiful summer scarf or lace shawl.

Floral motifs cascade from both the outer and inner edges. The outer edge features Point de Rose. Roses, primroses, chrysanthemums... The beautiful, three-dimensional veins of the leaves and the charming shamrocks (three-leaf clovers) lined up around the neck are very striking.

The two Point de Gaze sections on each tippet are made of a soft, gauze-like tulle mesh.

Delicate and lovely embroidery, reminiscent of classic roses, weeping cherry blossoms, and weeping plum blossoms, stands out against the fine tulle fabric.

The outline is worked with a medium-fine thread, while the inner details use a finer thread to create shading and variation, giving a light and airy feel.

Small picot lace is also embroidered on the bridges connecting the motifs, adding to its delicate charm.

The beautiful color is also captivating. A pale glass ivory, an elegant and antique ecru color. It might even feel like buttercream. It possesses the mellow, time-embellished beautiful tone that only aged pieces have.

The texture is smooth, soft, and silky. The material is likely linen or cotton.

Please excuse the following measurement discrepancies for this handmade item.

Outer length: approx. 77 cm
Inner length: approx. 78 cm
Tippet length & width: 19 cm & 14 cm
Center back: Width/Height 13 cm
Approx. 8g

It is in beautiful condition with no noticeable stains, dirt, large tears, or rips. Although mostly unnoticeable, there are small clusters of brown spots, smaller than a pinprick, in some areas, possibly from rubbing against furniture. There are small breaks in the tulle weave and areas that appear to have been repaired. There are also minor unravelings in the threads of the bridges, but they are not very noticeable.

When layered, the multi-layered lace creates an indescribable elegance.

When not worn, it can be draped over a large object or gently placed in a glass container for an elegant and enjoyable display. We hope you will find a wonderful way to use it ✧
