Asakusa Sanja Matsuri Kakubobi Obi for Kimono/Hanten, Gold Embroidery Pattern
This obi was used a few times by my father in the past for wearing a kimono during the Sanja Matsuri festival. The box is quite deteriorated, but the obi itself is in beautiful condition.
Features of the Sanja Matsuri inscribed obi:
● Design: The characters Sanja Matsuri, Asakusa, Mutsumi, and the Mitsudomoe crest are designed as text and patterns throughout the obi and on one end.
● Type: This is a Kakubobi (a firm type of obi), not a soft Hiragukeobi (which has no inner lining), with the characters either dyed out or embroidered. This is that type.
● Characteristics: In Edo-mae style, particularly for carrying mikoshi (portable shrines) in Asakusa, inscribed obis are highly favored as formal wear.
This is an amateur measurement, but the length is approximately 4m 15cm and the width is about 9cm, which is the average length for a Kakubobi.
