DUPLEX 1900s Snare Drum + Stand
DUPLEX 1-ply Mahogany, 1900s
Approx. 15.5 inches
A snare drum made with mahogany for both the shell and hoops.
I have kept it carefully stored since acquiring it, without opportunities to use it for performance.
From my brief test play, I felt it produced a very deep low end, and the thickness of the sound image was distinct from modern drums.
I believe it would be excellent for recording or film scoring.
Both heads are genuine leather (I recall it being lambskin).
The snares are not original to the era but are PureSound, which improves playability.
Due to the lack of standardized sizing in that era, it's slightly larger than modern drums.
It fit perfectly on a Slingerland snare stand, which I am including with the sale. This stand is from the 1960s.
As this is a very unique item, I am open to discussing the price.
My reason for selling is that I would prefer this snare, which is still playable, to go to someone who will use it rather than just be a decorative piece.
It's a snare over 100 years old, but it's a testament to the interesting nature of drums that the basic structure was already so well-developed.
It would be difficult to create a mahogany snare of this size today.
If you are interested, please consider it.
As it is an antique item, please understand that all sales are final (no returns, no exchanges).
