[About the Product]
This is a work from approximately 150 years ago, during the late Edo period (Bakumatsu).

Genuine Work by Murayama Hanboku, a loyalist painter of the Bakumatsu period. Also known as Katingjin. Folding fan with landscape painting and calligraphy. Paper, handwritten, valuable.

Murayama Hanboku (1828-1868) was a loyalist painter of the late Edo and Bakumatsu periods.
Born in Echigo (Niigata Prefecture). His given name was Shō. His courtesy name was Kikkei. His common name was Shūichirō. His alternate name was Kating. Katingjin.
His talent for painting was recognized from a young age, and he studied under Hasegawa Rankei. After reaching adulthood, he traveled through Kansai, Kyushu, and San'in to broaden his knowledge. In Kyoto, he met Fujimoto Tesshiki and others, who influenced him intellectually and ideologically. The year after Fujimoto Tesshiki's failed Tenchūgumi Rebellion in Bunkyū 3, he returned to his hometown. During the subsequent Hokuetsu Boshin War, he sided with the Western Army by submitting a plan for the pacification of Echigo to the Hokurikudō Pacification Commissioner. As a result, he was pursued by the Shogunate forces. Upon hearing a false report from his brother, who visited his hiding place, that his comrades had been executed, he committed suicide on June 14, Keio 4, in his hideout in Uchimura, Kanbara District, his hometown. He was 41 years old.
