Born in Tokyo.
Graduated from Tama Art University, Department of Graphic Design in 1997.
Currently based in Tokyo, where she continues her creative activities.
Recipient of numerous awards, including the Grand Prix at the 7th Hitotsubo Exhibition (1996), the Excellence Award at the 13th Canon New Cosmos of Photography (1996), the Konica Photo Encouragement Prize (1998), and the 26th Kimura Ihei Photography Award (2001).
In addition to her career in magazines and advertising, she has published a diverse range of photobooks and directed the film Sakuran (2007), establishing herself as one of the most active photographers today.
In 2010, she published the photobook MIKA NINAGAWA with Rizzoli N.Y., which garnered international attention.
A solo exhibition, Mika Ninagawa Exhibition, was held at the Urasoe City Museum in Okinawa from February 24th to April 8th. Her second directorial film, Helter Skelter, based on the manga by Kyoichi Azukizawa and starring Erika Sawajiri, was released nationwide on July 14th (Saturday).
This is her fifth exhibition at Tomio Koyama Gallery, following a joint exhibition with Daido Moriyama in Kyoto in 2011.
